Week Thirty-Three: May 12-16, 2008

Art Centre - Week Thirty-Three

Week thirteen of semester two of year one - four days of classes

Monday Morning – Printmaking

There were three printmaker presentations:

Marc Chagall - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Chagall

Albrecht Durer - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albrecht_D%C3%BCrer

Florence Broadhurst - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florence_Broadhurst

I continued with the etching of six little paper-mache cats. I continue experimenting with mixed media to colour the prints. As of now I have eight prints in this varied edition.

Monday Afternoon – Ceramics

I continued using coils to construct the shell-like part that rests on top of the base. This shell part has now been completed and the two-part piece has been taken to the kiln room and is ready for the first firing. We have Victoria Day holiday next week so I won’t be able to glaze the piece yet even if it gets fired by then.

Tuesday – Design

In design class we were shown a variety of books on design, ranging from furniture to kimonos. Several of the books were about Art Deco. There are no new assignments to do – many of us are now working on our final project in the course, the book on a chosen colour. I have my content (text and images) and am working on how to put it all together.

WednesdayDrawing Fundamentals

Last week we did a contour line drawing of a large bouquet of flowers then put in the colours with watercolours. This week, we played with watercolours to create a background then drew a bouquet of tulips over that background, and painted the tulips.

I forgot to take a picture of my painting. So no illustration for now. Next week we will bring all that we have done for this class to decide what to put up for the exhibition.

Thursday Painting

I continued to work on the small canvas I am doing of a heap of fabrics. I’ll post the results when I’m done. I still want to revisit my large abstract to make more discoveries there before the end of the semester.

The End is Near!

The school year is coming to an end and I think we are all ready for that. We’ve become friends from being together so much since September and in the coming week, we are having a get-together – a potluck BBQ. Plans are being made for the summer. And we only have one traditional “final exam” to study for – in printmaking.

I imagine that in all of my classes next week, we will be involved in setting up the exhibition that starts on Thursday and is an open house Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Our work will be on display and if we care to do so – we can sell stuff.

Please plan to attend.

6-9 pm Opening Night May 29

10 am-4 pm Friday, May 30 and Noon – 4 pm on Saturday May 31
